Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge #144

This week AHSC had given us a classic sketch! And feeling the retro vibe, I decided to use a few much loved but less seen techniques on my card.

Technique #1, Sanding.  I love exposing the white core in CTMH's cardstock and giving my projects just that little bit more dimension.  On this card, I sanded the flowers and the embossed dots on my piece of sweet leaf cardstock.  I also sanded the edges of the sweet leaf piece and then inked it.

Technique #2, Inking the edges.  I swiped my Slate ink pad around the edges of my floral paper and sweet leaf card stock to not only frame them but to draw the eye in and give continuity between the two pieces.

Technique #3, Stamping directly onto the final piece.  What if I mess up? It is this worry that keeps so many people from stamping directly onto their work.  But you just have to keep reminding yourself; 1. I can get another piece of paper, 2. a "mess up" is not necessarily a mistake, and 3. if I don't try how will I ever get better at it?

Products I used for this card are:
La Vie En Rose Paper Packet,
Slate Ink
- January's stamp of the month Beloved Bouquet (S1601),
Cricut Artiste for my flowers cut in Ruby and Hollyhock cardstock
- and from my stash a Durables round pewter stud for the flower center.

Thank you for stopping by, and I truly appreciate your comments.  I hope I have inspired you to play along with us at Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge.

Cross Canada Blog Hop, January!

Welcome to our January Blog Hop featuring Watercolor Creations. To purchase any of the items seen in our blog hop today, contact your local consultant to place an order.

We hope that you will take the time to leave comments on our posts, as we love to get feedback from our viewers. Whether it was something that you liked or some new technique used that you would like to learn how to do, by leaving us comments, we get to hear what you like, and what you want to see. Thank you, now on to our hop!

If you have just hopped onto my blog, you can start here as this is a circular hop, but if you want to follow us across Canada, then please start at the beginning and join Michelle at My Creations with Michelle. If you came from Kirstin at Crafty in the Country, then you are in the right place!

I wasn't sure if I was going to receive the watercolours in time to participate in this hop but they arrived!  So what to create??? As I have not had much experience with watercolours, I decided just to start by seeing how it goes onto the paper.  I did purchase the watercolour paper, and it is a little thicker than white daisy.  I watched the video by CTMH entitled "Seven Things You Can Do With Watercolor" which is full of very helpful hints and tips.

So now that I have played around with the paints and made a wonderful mess, what to do with it?  I decided to make flowers. Using one of my favourite flower shapes from Cricut Art Philosophy, I cut the flowers in a variety of sizes so that I could then create layered flowers. I will now add all these pretty flowers to my embellishment stash and be able to add to them to future cards and layouts!  When it comes time to use them I will probably add patterned paper or cardstock layers and will add some type of bling for the flower centers.

I am the very last stop in this hop across Canada but if you are still completing the trip than you next stop is all the way back across Canada in Halifax, Nova Scotia with Michelle at My Creations with Michelle

Thanks for hopping along with us - we hope we were able to inspire you to get creative using some of the designs, products and techniques seen along the way. We hope you will join us again next month when we will feature Cardstock Creations. So mark February 15th on your calendars and hop along with us.

Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge #142

Great classic sketch this week from AHSC.  I tried to think a little outside the box and used the Positive Chemistry (B1485) to create this super cute card.

The patterned paper is from the La Vie En Rose Paper Collection and I used Poppy, Black and Whiper ink for my stamping.  I coloured in the beakers using my watercolour pencils and free hand drew the black border using my journaling pen. I added some poppy shimmer trim and a single red enamel heart to finish off my card.

Thank you for stopping by and I truly appreciate your comments.  I hope you get inspired and decide to come play long with us at Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge!
