Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge #108

Whew!  Got this one done! The last few weeks have been BUSY and this past long weekend my dear husband and I proved once again that we are perhaps slightly insane by tearing apart our pool and some of the back deck to fix a (long) list of issues to then try and put it all back together again. Of course this was done in the beautiful sunshine that gave us sunburns and mild heat exhaustion.  In between this hard labour we also weeded/rototiller the garden and went to see the movie: Mad Max Fury Road. I can in all honesty say I am tired, very, very tired, so when I sat down to create earlier today not a lot of creativity was floating around in my brain...

As you know some weeks I stick close to the sketch provided by AHCS and other weeks the cards take a bit of left and become something else entirely, this week I think I am somewhere in the middle.  I gave myself the challenge to try and stay to three colours plus the Colonial White base. So the colours I chose for this card are Twilight (retired), Pacifica, and Glacier (which is the tiny lines on the Jackson paper) but Lagoon snuck in when I decided to add the washi tape.

The pretty bird and sentiments are from a Hostess Reward set called Paper Bird (ask me how you can get yours for Free!). I stamped the bird onto Colonial White cardstock using Pacifica ink and then stamped his wing onto a piece of Twilight (also using Pacifica). I then fussy cut out both the bird and the wing and paper pieced the wing onto the bird. I did use a pop dot at one end to give the wing some lift. I sanded the Twilight base piece and the "Greetings" banner to give them that faded, shabby look. I left the end of the banner loose and curled it up a bit with my bone folder, I also curled the bottom of my Jackson (striped) piece of paper after I cut it using the Scallop Border Punch. A few bits of Lagoon Houndstooth washi tape (retired) and my little bird card is done.

Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge #106

National Scrapbooking MonthClose To My Heart is celebrating National Scrapbooking Month and for this month only they have released a super cute paper pack and coordinating stamp set both called "Taste of Summer".  The paper pack is $8.95 and the D-size stamp set is $19.75 (both are plus shipping and taxes.)  I finally got to open up and play with my paper pack today and it is just so SUMMER!  The main feature on each page is summer fruit and berries in bright, bold colours with the flip side being a coordinating colour and complimentary pattern.

Using this weeks sketch from AHSC, this super fun paper and the Happy Everything (D1653) stamp set (which is an Operation Smile stamp set), I quickly came up with the bright and happy card.

Starting with the yellow background paper... this is not cardstock but the backside of the "lemon's" paper from the paper packet.  It actually has thin lighter yellow lines running down it and I put in thru my embosser using CTMH's Stripe embossing folder.  Unfortunately the lighter yellow lines do not show up in the picture but they are visible in person.

I inked all the edges in Thistle ink and stamped my sentiment using Topiary.  My little bee is stamped in black and I coloured him in using my water colour pencils.  I stamped his little happy trail in Thistle and then used my Wink of Stella Brush in Shimmer to give some glittery highlights to his wings, trail and the flower centers. A few sequins from the Oceanside collection and a quick bow using Thistle Extra Thick Twine and my card is done.
