Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge #104
We had a really mild winter here on the West Coast that became an early Spring and the last couple of days it seems like Summer has arrived. We have been reaching daytime highs in the 20's and the sunscreen is definitely being applied before we go play outside. Already had a some mild sunburns around here, not fun! Onto this weeks sketch from AHSC. I have made this kind of card a few times and thought I would share those this week.
The first card I created for my Monthly Card Clubs a few months ago. I had seen several similar cards online and initially I wanted to do the masking tape technique for the ombre stamping but decided to use the Distressed Backgrounds (D1544) stamp set instead. The trick when stamping on multiple layers of papers like this is to really rock the stamp. I was going to put cardstock between the layers but I really liked the white space that the layers created with the stamping so I swiped all the edges in Pacifica Ink instead. The colours used for the ombre stamping from the top is Glacier, Honey, Crystal Blue and Lagoon. Be sure to stamp off very well or clean the stamp between layers or you will muddy your colours.
Other products used on this card are A Thing Well Done (C1606) stamp set for the center design and sentiment (this was a Hostess Rewards stamp set from the Expressions 1 booklet and now retired), Gold Sequins and the little bird is from the Junebug Puffies (also now retired but can be found on While Supplies Last!). I cut the "gear" out using my Cricut Artiste and inked it with Honey.
This card was created in 2012 for a Christmas Card Workshop. The stamp set used is from the Cricut Art Philosophy Collection and therefore still available! As you can see with this card I did fewer white layers(than the card above) and did add in cardstock between the layers. Everything was done in Ruby and was a fun way to introduce random stamping and only using one colour to create a dramatic effect.
Thank you for stopping by, I truly appreciate your comments. Please follow the link to check out all the great artwork submitted to the Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge. I hope you get inspired and decide to come play along. We would love to see what you create and you might get voted as one of the top 3 cards of the week.
