Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge #140

Image
The last challenge of the year and I am feeling festive!  I decided to make a Happy New Year card and this weeks challenge from AHSC was perfect to get the creative mojo going.
I created this card using only November's Stamp of the Month "Cheers, 2016!" (S1511), and shimmer trim in a variety of colours. I used Sapphire, Poppy and Canary inks for my stamping and finished off my card with a few enamel stars, clear sparkles and the glitter gems from the Blue Dots assortment.  As you can see my festive card came together quickly. Thank you for stopping by and I truly appreciate your comments!  I hope you get inspired and decide to come play along with us at Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge.
Happy Crafting and Happy New Year!

Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge #138

Image
It is the last week of school before winter break, and our schedule is just nuts!  I keep reminding myself "just a few more days till winter break"! I love our little school, and we are so glad that our son gets to participate in wonderful memory making activities but why does it all have to happen this week??
Moving on! As always a super cute sketch from AHSC.  I was in a sparkly, glittery mood and it became this card.  I still had the Sparkle and Shine paper packet (retired) on my desk, so I decided to use the houndstooth pattern paper as it has a silver shine to it and the border edge is from the Cricut Art Philosophy Collection.  Other Products I used on this card are: - Teal Glitter Paper which I cut with the Scallop Border PunchBlue Shimmer Trim - My sentiment is from the Make It Merry (D1617) stamp set, and I stamped it in Sapphire and Peacock Ink (new colours!). I fussy cut the "Merry" out and pieced it onto the base.  - The fancy shaped base is from th…

Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge #136

Image
Love this week's sketch from AHSC and initially I had planned to follow the sketch very closely but as you can see it changed a little as I created.  I am currently trying to use up some of my stash and I reached into my Christmas Papers and pulled out "Sparkle and Shine".  I love this paper packet and as I played I wanted to incorporate the  "Home for the Holidays" zip strip and then the trees seemed like a good idea...
Other products I used for this card:
- Silver Foil Tape
- Juniper Cardstock and Ink for stamping
- Festive Trees (B1493) Stamp Set. This is a hostess rewards stamp and only available until the end of December... as me how you can get yours!
- White Enamel Stars and a Red Enamel Heart
- Silver Marker!  I haven't used this product before and LOVE! I coloured in the dots on my center tree and did a little accent on my heart tree. Great way to add a little sparkle. Why haven't I played with the Metallic Markers before?!?  Silly me!

Thank y…

Seven Things You Can Do With Watercolor

Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge #134

Crazy storm day here on the West Coast. I love this weeks sketch from AHSC and wish that I had given myself more time to play or rather I wish my body had... I pinched a nerve in my low back a few weeks ago and well, it has really been limiting how long I can sit in my craft room and play.
I can honestly say I am not 100% happy with this card but I did have fun with my watercolour pencils colouring in my dinosaur and I love the super cute dino stamp set that he is from, it is called Darling Dinos (B1486). For my background I embossed my Pacifica Cardstock with the Confetti Embossing Folder which I then lightly sanded to bring out the white core. I stamped my sentiment and sponge distressed my card base using Sunset Ink. A few white enamel stars and some blue and green bitty sparkles from my stash and my super quick card is done.  I really like this sketch and can see myself using it again to make several scrapbook pages.  Thank you for visiting and I truly appreciate your comments. Penguins!

Image
Love Penguins (seriously who doesn't?!) I designed this card for my Christmas Card Workshops and I can happily say it has been one of the favorites so far this year. The card base is Slate cardstock and the tag cut is from Cricut Art Philosophy, cut at 4.5". The patterned background paper is from the White Pine Paper collection and the stamped snowflakes, penguins and the sentiment inside the card are from the Season's Greetings (B1483) stamp set and stamped in Lagoon and Black ink.
After I stamped and fussy cut out the penguins I coloured in the scarf and hat accents using my Lagoon Alcohol Marker which is a retired CTMH product but we do have the Shin Han Markers available and the Turquoise Blue would also be a great match. I used the retired CTMH marker as I lent my Shin Han markers to my mom because she colours her images way more than I do. As I stamped my penguins using dye ink I was very careful to try not to touch the black while I coloured as dye ink will bleed,…

Embellishing 101: Complements, Assortments, and Stamping

Image

Complements

Image
When I first saw the sticker sheets that come in the White Pines Complements I knew I had to do a card using the singing animals and the MOOSE!  These cards actually went thru several variations until I found the right combo of elements. The problem was I wanted to show off the super cute animals but the background couldn't be too busy or they would get lost. The solution turned out to be creating my own background and I used the cute little star from the Festive Trees (B1493) stamp set. This is a hostess rewards stamp and I also use it for my sentiments on both cards. I random stamped the stars, the sentiments and sponge distressed the banners using Glacier ink. Other products I used are White Pines Paper Packet for my little banners, Red Shimmer Trim, Gold Foil Tape and the green strip and blue holly and berries strip are from the compliment sticker sheets.
About the compliments... I love them! When it was announced that they were changing the compliments I was excited because…

A La Vie & Poppy Christmas

Image
For today's Christmas card reveal... La Vie en Rose and Poppy! Do the design look familiar?? I have used it before but it comes from Make It from Your Heart Volume 2, Pattern 28. I love all the how to books from CTMH. They are a great source to help jump start the creative mojo.
The La Vie en Rose Paper Packet is lovely and fully of drama as I always find black and white to be so striking. For this card I paired the quartrefoil patterned papers from La Vie with a new colour called Poppy, which I embossed using the Quatrefoil Embossing Folder and lightly sanded it to bring out the white core. For some sparkle and to add more colour I then added the Coral Shimmer Trim (on a Slate cardstock base) and a few of the pretty flowers from the White Pine Complements. The white daisy piece was cut from the Cricut Art Philosophy Collection and the sentiment is from the Pear & Partridge Scrabooking WOTG from a few years ago.  I try not to use retired sentiments and stamps in my workshops …

Kraft Christmas

Image
I seem to have a love of Kraft Paper and really like to use it whenever I can. I recently designed this card for my big Christmas Card Workshops and I LOVE the Wood Grain Embossing Folder with the Kraft Paper.
The lovely sentiment and holly leaves are from CTMH's White Pines Scrapbooking Workshop on the Go stamp set and was stamped using Topiary Ink. All the shapes are from the Cricut Artistry Collection and the patterned paper is from the White Pines Paper Packet. I finished this card off with a few bitty sparkles and Red Enamel Gems.
Clean, simple and lovely.
Thank you for stopping by and I truly appreciate your comments.
Happy Crafting!

My bad!

Image
I totally forgot that this week was one of my weeks to create with Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge. In my defense I have been very busy creating, cutting, sorting, counting, re counting, double checking and finalizing all the details for my upcoming Christmas Card Workshops.  These workshops are huge in that my crafting friends are creating 20 cards (2 each of 10 designs) that I have designed and pre-cut, etc. for them. Some of my regular crafters call this annual workshop our yearly epic event and they do work hard!
Three of the cards for this years workshop are from CTMH's White Pines Cardmaking Workshop on the go.  I like to use the WOTG's as a starting point and of course I love that I can make the cards cards my own... some years I change the cards a lot and other years not so much.  This year, not so much.
I re created this card with just a few extra's, instead of stapling the Fern Extra Thick Twine, I knotted it.  I also added one of the little Kraft Paper Birds …

I Melded!

Image
Last month I upgraded to a Cricut Explore Air and honestly I was very hesitant to do it but my poor Cricut Expression 2 was just done, I create a lot of workshops and that machine has seen some heavy use over the past few years. Why was I hesitant? Well I wasn't sure if having to upload my cartridges to the Cricut Design Space was a good idea, what if they don't load and how will I find what I want and what if the internet is down and how long will it take? Seriously what if I just want to cut a quick circle.. will it take 20 minutes to load everything? Well, I am happy to say most of my worries have been appeased. It does take a few minutes to load the program and find what design I want to cut but the program is super user friendly and as I play with it I am getting more confident.
So, I am in the midst of working on my big annual Christmas Card Workshop and I wanted to use a Christmas ornament overlay from CTMH. I thought it would work with October's SOTM, Twinkle. Wel…

Atlantic Hearts #128

Image
This week my husband needs as special card for work as one of the senior executives just got some new twin grand-babies. Now all new babies are special but twins is just amazing. So using this weeks AHSC and the lovely Georgie paper packet from CTMH, I came up with this super cute card. I decided to give myself a bigger work area than normal and made this card a 5x7. I wanted to use the adorable Pram card cut-out from the Cricut Artfully Sent Collection and didn't want it to be super small or for the card to look crowded. I really like the Artfully Sent Collection in that it has designs for Picture My Life "cards" that can be used in pocket scrapbooking but also can give some really neat embellishment and focal point on cards. Other products I used were the Cricut Artistry Collection for the oval shape and the sentiment is also from the this collection and called Love Right Now (D1682). I used Juniper ink for the sentiment and Slate for some edge distressing. Slate card…

Water Colours!

Image
Water colouring is all the rage right now and I have had the water colour pencils from CTMH since last year. I have used them a few times and wanted to incorporate them into this years Christmas Card workshop as a new technique.
A few things to know when using water colours, you can get special water colouring paper which I would suggest for large projects but for a little one regular cardstock will work. I do recommend using a permanent ink like CTHM's Archival Black or a Pigment ink. Also, a LITTLE water goes a VERY long way.
When I first saw the Joyful Garland (B1489) stamp set (this is a hostess rewards set) I knew that I wanted to make a cute little rustic Christmas card with it.
Sorry but this picture really doesn't do the colours justice. I tried adjusting but was making it worse not better!
When using water colour pencils you can colour your images in dry and then go back with a wet paint brush or you can dip the pencil into the water and then colour. I did have so…

Atlantic Hearts #126, BTF #7 and Color Dare #160

Been feeling so MIA lately! Been very busy with back to school for my little guy (of course) AND I got the back to school bug. It was just a cold for most but for me it is lingering going and round and round from my ears to my sinus to my lungs. So annoying! Anyways, I have also been very busy working on this years epic Christmas Card Workshop, this is my 4th year and my crafty peeps do 20 cards (2 each each of 10 designs) in one day. This year has a few changes and I can't wait to share... soon, very soon!
To take a little break from Christmas, I decide to make a card using the La Vie En Rose paper packet. My mother-in-law needs an extra special Thank You card and I thought these papers would be perfect. With this weeks design challenge from AHSC, I am also doing a few other challenges. This weeks colour challenge from Color My Heart was to use Black, White, Ruby and Goldrush and this weeks challenge from Between to the Fold is Quotes.
Some other news for me... I got a Cricut Ex…

Atlantic Hearts #124

Image
I love to use the sketches from Atlantic Hearts and often the cards I create from those sketches become the samples from my monthly creative clubs. When I saw this sketch a few weeks ago, I actually squealed "sewing!" because a focus of the creative clubs is to learn new skills and I knew most of my crafty girls had never sewn on paper... (maniacal laughter!) So the classes were last week and many did sew, a few chose not to and we did discuss alternate ways we could create the look without actually sewing like hand drawing the lines with a journal or fine tipped pen, using the stitch guide and piercing the pattern but not actually sewing it or by stamping with a "stitch" stamp (CTMH had a great one a few years ago and currently there is a pretty one called Stitch Wonder C1564).
So the most helpful step for sewing on paper??  Use a stitch guide and CTMH has two! The first one is a ruler with a simple sewing pattern and the second is much larger. It is still shap…

Between the Folds - Week 4

Image
I have been wanted to get back to Between the Folds Challenge blog for a few weeks but as I mentioned yesterday, busy! Their new challenge went up this morning and it is... CTMH Cricut Cut.
For those of you who know me well, my cricut gets well used and rarely do I use a cartridge that is not CTMH.  For me CTMH's five Cricut Collections more than meet my crafty needs. Yesterday, I was working on a card inspired by my friend Wendy at Stamping Rules, she created a card a few weeks ago using an adorable heart overlay from the new Artistry Cricut Collection and this is my version using the same overlay. The patterned papers in my large hearts are from the Zoe Paper Packet and for my small hearts I used Sorbet, Glacier, Canary and Gypsy cardstock.  For the banner (Cricut Artiste), sentiment, small stamped hearts and the background I used the super cute stamp set Oodles of Doodles (B1449) with Glacier and Lagoon ink. For the background using glacier ink I stamped the triangle across th…

Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge #122

Image
Busy days! I have been working on several projects that are going to be super fun this fall AND I been trying to have tons of summer fun with the family. Busy, busy days... Thankfully AHSC is never too busy for me and keeps providing sketches that help stimulate my creative mojo, often pulling me outside my normal "style. This weeks challenge did this for me pushing me to try something a little different and I really like the results!
For this card I used Pacifica cardstock which I heavily sanded as my base and Pacifica Ink for my sentiment. The sentiment is from the stamp set "Just to Say" which can be found in the Artfully Sent Cricut Collection where you can also find the cloud shape.  The kite is cut using the new Artistry Cricut Collection! I cut the kite's blue and white tail pieces using blue and white Shimmer Trim and my Triangle Border Punch, if you flip the punch over and line it up from the back you can put the shimmer trim in the punch and make tons of…

Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge #120

AUGUST! Already. Time really just goes a little too quickly. For this weeks challenge at AHSC I tried to do a more "manly" card and have a little fun with the new Zoe Paper Packet.

For my base I embossed slate cardstock with my Arrow Embossing Folder and then went at it with my sanding block to expose the white core.  I hand cut out the three banner strips from the Zoe Paper and used canary cardstock with a thin sweet leaf piece for my large banner. I also sanded this piece and stamped my sentiment from August's Stamp of the Month "Framed" S1508 in black ink.  I added a few arrows from my black arrow washi tape and wrapped a piece of glacier extra thick twine around the end.  I used thick foam tape to adhere the banner to my card giving it a bit more of a pop. Thank you for stopping by, I truly appreciate your comments. Please follow the link to check out all the great artwork submitted to the Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge. It's a challenge kind of day

Image
Playing in my crafty space today and decided to try a few challenges. Upon searching I decided to do 3! Retro Sketches for the design, Heart 2 Heart Challenges for the theme "Birthday Bash" and I have discovered a brand new challenge blog called Between the Fold which is a weekly challenge blog and this week is their very first challenge "anything goes"!
Close to my Heart has released several products that are featured in the new Annual Expression (available September 1st) to us early and I decided to play with some of this product today. I used the new Zoe Paper Packet and I had planned to use the new Cricut Artistry Collection but ended up using images from the Artiste Collection for my bow and tag. The new shimmer trim is called Coral and I love it! My sentiment is from the Happy to Be Friends (C1605) stamp set and it is stamped using Sorbet and Sweet Leaf Ink. I also sponged distressed all edges with Sorbet and sand distressed the bow. Happy Crafting!

Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge #118

My husband and I spent the last few days at the mercy of a very nasty flu and so this week I decided to closely follow the super cute sketch from AHSC. I really don't have much creative mojo in me and I am so thankful that they always give us a really good designs to build on.
For this card I used Gypsy Cardstock which I sanded heavily with my sanding block, the patterned paper is from the Wanderful Paper Packet, White and black Shimmer Trim and my sentiment is a sneak peek of the August Stamp of the Month which I stamped in Gypsy and Black ink. The black line on my blue dot paper I hand drew using a journalling pen. I frequently see this freehand technique on projects and really like the look of it. I have now tried it several on several of my own projects and love the whimsy.  Thank you for stopping by, I truly appreciate your comments. Please follow the link to check out all the great artwork submitted to the Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge. I hope you get inspired and decide …

Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge #116

Image
For this weeks challenge at Atlantic Hearts I decide to try to create a card using only stamps and no patterned paper but I also wanted it to be "clean" and follow the sketch...
Using the Dizzy Circles (C1610) stamp set I layered stamped three of the spiral images in Canary, Lagoon and Hollyhock ink. The sentiment is from the Finding the Words (D1616) stamp set, I REALLY like this set as you can customize so many sentiments with it. I then added a few pieces of Lagoon Heart Washi Tape, some clear sparkles and one lone little white sequin from the Coral Reef Sequins and a mini staple for some added dimension and I like it!  Thank you for stopping by, I truly appreciate your comments. Please follow the link to check out all the great artwork submitted to the Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge. I hope you get inspired and decide to come play along. We love to see what you create and you might get voted as one of the top 3 cards of the week.

Happy Canada Day!

Image
A few weeks ago Paper-Garden.ca invited me to participate in their Canada Day Cards event and sent me a wonderful sampler pack of some of their red and white papers.
I have been playing with the paper and a few observations about the samples that I got are: - they came in Cover Weight (which is a medium weight cardstock), 105lb cover weight (a heavy cardstock) and Text Weight (which is a light weight cardstock).   - All cut nicely on the Circut and go thru the Cuttlebug with ease - A few of the samples are Metallics! with a light sparkly sheen to the paper. - Names of the paper samples I received are Curious Metallics Ice Silver, Stardream Crystal, Aura Solar White, Curious Metallic Red Lacquer, Aura Scarlet Linen, Basis Red, Aura Red, and Pop-Tone Wild Cherry
- My only complaint about the paper is the Metallics do not hold ink well. I tried stamping in both Dye and Pigment inks and both took a considerable length of time to dry. I checked the dye ink over a few days and it took at…

Happy Summer!  Here on the "wet coast" we are in the middle of a heat wave and drought... going to be a long summer. I have been so busy with end of the school year activities with Malcolm and all the outdoor projects we have going on, I feel like I get about a half hour in the craft room a week. I plan to change that and hopefully will start posting a whole bunch of completed projects using up some of my old (ahem, horded) supplies as I get ready for the new CTMH Idea Book that will be available September 1st!
Fun sketch this week from AHSC and I struggled a bit trying to figure out what I wanted to put on it.  I literally shuffled a bunch of my stamps sets and picked one at random.  The stamp set I picked is Hello Summer (C1595) and I decided to use the paper packet already sitting on my workbench, JacksonCardstock I used are Glacier, Sunset, Canary and Colonial White.  I used Cocoa and Sunset inks for stamping.  A few pieces of the skinny green washi tape from the Board…
