Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge #66

https://cdn.closetomyheart.com/2014/image-gallery/14-ai-idea-book-cover.jpg?maxwidth=600&maxheight=400I  am so very excited about the shiny new Annual Idea Book from Close To My Heart and being an independent consultant for this wonderful company has some perks, like being able to shop before it goes "live" on August 1st. (FRIDAY!)  Many of my crafty friends have had sneak peeks at all the wonderful product that I ordered and their wish lists are now long!  We are going to have a great year with this Idea Book and all sorts of workshops and ideas for our Monthly clubs are swirling around in my head.

BUT...  For the month of August I have have decided to "attack my stash"!   Compared to a few of my crafty friends, I know that my horde stash is miniscule but to me it is out of control and I am going to do something about it.  I have a "use it or loose it" policy for most things in our house, as I am not a big fan of clutter and I am going to make this apply to the many crafty items that are squirreled away in my craft room.  For many of my crafty friends this will be a good thing as I will be having a retired product sale at some point in the fall so that I can get it out of my closet and into yours!(devilish laugh)

With this in mind I literally reached into that closet and grabbed a paper packet from the "retired" paper shelf and came out with "Lucky". This paper packet is at least 3 year old and still wonderful!  Part of the theme in this packet was bicycles so I then looked at the Evernote app on my phone which has a list of all my stamp sets and after a quick tag search for "bicycles"...  the first one on the list was, "It's Your Day".  This was a special celebration stamp set created last year (I think) and it was only available for one month.  I found this process of just picking the first thing kind of liberating and a whole lot of fun!

Now onto this weeks lovely sketch from Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge. I created this quick card but I did sneak in a "brand new to Close To My Heart product" that is in the new Idea Book.  Can you spot it?
For those who have a copy of the new Idea Book on page 182...  yup, I got to use the new Chevron Border Punch!  Can you spot it yet??  To add a little more fun to the punched strip of paper I punched out a border on sunset cardstock and used the "waste" pieces to fill in a few of the holes in the border. Oh the possibilities...

Other product that I used on this card are: sunset and colonial white Cardstock, sunset, olive and outdoor denim Ink and my Cricut Artiste for a few of the shapes.  The sparkles are from a blue/green assortment that are now retired but I recently found out we can colour Clear Sparkles with our new Alcohol Markers!  More info to come on that bit of information once I have had a chance to play.

Thank you for stopping by and I truly appreciate your comments.  Follow the link to check out all the great artwork submitted to the Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge. I hope you get inspired and decide to come play along.  We would love to see what you create and you might get voted as one of the top 3 cards of the week.

Oh!  One last thing.... I remember to do inside the card!  Again!  Nothing super fancy but I remembered to do it. Feeling kinda proud of myself.

Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge #64

Heat Wave!  It has been so hot the past several days which is always a pro and con for me.  I love sunshine (really who doesn't?) but here in the Alberni Valley when the weather channel says it will be 35'C it actually feels well into the 40's!  We have a thermometer on our back deck (in the shade) and over the past few days it has been reading at 43/44/45'C in the middle of the afternoon, that is hot, hurtful hot!  Thankfully we have a pool and tons of sunscreen.  To make matters worse, I have a "sun sensitivity" which makes even minimal sun exposure feel like hundreds of needles are stabbing me and I get red bumps that then turn into blisters.  This mostly happens on my arms so I am the girl who is wearing a long sleeve shirt or hoodie on a sunny day while searching for the small patch of shade that I can hide in...  thankfully there are lots of trees for me to hide under!

Now onto this weeks challenge from Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge.  This one made me think!  So simple and I wanted to try to do something outside my norm...  easier said than done.

To make this card I used papers from the Balloon Ride Paper Packet and the stamp set from the Ivy Lane Cardmaking Workshop to create my flower using Crystal Blue and Creme Brulee ink.  For my sentiment I used the retired stamp set Card Chatter - Birthday (D1475) using Crystal Blue ink and all the sponge distressing was done using Cashmere.  I used Sorbet pigment ink for stamping the cute little flower on my canvas badge button (this is a long retired product but I love to use these little buttons to add a fun element to a project).
I remembered to do inside the card!

My Cricut got a workout with this card and all cuts were done using Art Philosophy. For the "bookends" the shape can be found on page 53 <square3>  and I cut the cashmere cardstock at 3.75"  and the patterned paper at 3.5".  I then cut the pieces in half to make the ends.  To build my flower I cut the pattern at 2.25" page 41 <circle3>, colonial white cardstock at 2" page 31 <circle2> and page 57 <flower3>at 1.5".

Happy Canada Day!

It's a beautiful sunny day here in Port Alberni, BC.  We had fun this morning watching our local Canada Day Parade and now we are going to spend the afternoon in true west coast fashion enjoying our swimming pool and having a BBQ.  As many of you know it has been a real challenge since we bought this house last summer but today spending a sunny afternoon hanging out with my two very favorite people, in our own backyard, is a wonderful thing.

Now onto this weeks sketch from Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge!  Wow we are up to #62  already and if you are not aware they have put up the call for those who would like to join us on the Design Team.  I hope you consider applying, it really is a lot of fun.

For this weeks challenge I decided to try something a little different, NO patterned paper... typically I choose one of CTMH's lovely paper packets and create using it but this week I decided to use only Colonial White Cardstock and Kraft Paper.

Other products that I used for this card are the Pick a Posey Stamp Set and the 4 My Friend Stamp Set which is long retired but still one of my favorite "go to" stamp sets for sentiments.  I did see several sentiment stamp sets in the new Annual Idea Book (available August 1st) that looked promising.  For the stamping and sponge distressing I used Close To My Hearts Exclusive Inks® Stamp Pads in Sorbet, Sunset, Buttercup (which is retiring!) and Sweet Leaf.

To give my Kraft paper some character I used the Edge Distresser to really "chew up" the edges of the paper and then I carefully crumpled up the kraft paper to give it the worn, weathered look that you can hopefully see in the photo.  I think it gives a great background for my pretty flowers.
