Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge #44

We have been having some wild winter weather here on the wet coast!  We usually get snow a few times during the winter but the last week or so has seen several winter systems come thru bringing us snow, slush, rain, more slush, more snow, you get the picture!  I actually like snow but from having to travel to the mainland in a white slushy mess over the past few days even I am ready for spring! But today... it has turned back to sunny and all the snow is melting.

In honour of "Spring cannot come fast enough!"  I made a pretty spring flower card using Sketch #44 from Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge, the striped paper from the Ariana Packet and the super cute Hostess Rewards Stamp Set "Enjoy the Little Things"  (Ask me how you can be a Hostess and get this exclusive stamp set!).  To make the super cute "loopy dee do"  I used my Cricut Artbooking and the "Thinking of you" is from the Casual Expressions stamp set.  Ink colours used are Pear, Smoothie, Sorbet, Blush and Creme Brulee.

A super quick, clean and simple card that gives me hope that Spring is on it's way!  Thank you for stopping by and I truly appreciate your comments!  Follow the link to check out all the great artwork submitted to the Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge. I hope you get inspired and decide to come play along!  We would love to see what you create and you may be voted into the top 3 cards of the week.

As most of you know my very favorite go to product for finishing off a project has been Glitz Glitter Gel in all it's wonderful colours because seriously glitter makes almost anything better! So I will admit to being very anxious when it was retired with the last Idea Book.  WHAT will I do now?  What if I run out??  I am very happy to have a (ahem, horde),stash of several bottles which should see me through the next decade or so but the question became "What do I replace it with for my clients who want glitter but do not own glitter glitz gel?" The Answer? Shimmer Trim!

It is a great product to work with and comes in 5 yard or 4.5 meter rolls.  The current colour choices are Black, Silver, Red, Bronze, Teal and Purple.  It is Adhesive-backed and that is my only complaint with this product, it can be a little difficult to get the clear protective plastic off the back it's like trying to find the end of a tape roll you know it's there..  But I have found if you "flick" a corner with your thumbnail it catches and once started comes off easily.

For these two cards, in addition to the shimmer trim, I used for the card above Babycakes paper, the super fun Scallop Border Punch and the sentiment is from the Cricut Artiste Collection.

The card to the left is from January's Cloud Nine Cardmaking Kit which also features another of my very favorite products WASHI!!!!  Close To My Heart now has eight different Washi designs and they are so much fun to play with.

Your next stop on the Cross Canada Hop is Kathy of It's a Girl Thing!  If you get lost along the way, you can head to Michelle's Blog, My Creations with Michelle, as she has the complete blog list.

In a challenge kind of mood...

So I have been in a little creative funk the past several days and in trying to get some inspiration I have been looking at a ton of "challenge" blogs.  So for this blog post I am going see how many I can enter and hopefully get my groove back.

For this card I recreated a design I did a few weeks ago for Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge using different paper and colours.  For this card I used Cotton Candy and Lagoon Inks and the striped paper is from the Skylark Paper Packet. I wanted a bright Birthday Card for a very bight girl.

Challenges I am entering:

- Heart 2 Heart Challenges - Hearts Galore This weeks theme is "Hearts" which you can interpret any way you like.  Now I don't officially have a "heart" on this card or do I?...  If you look at the flower petals I think you might see some hearts...
- Seize the Birthday - Time For A Little Love.  This weeks theme is "Anything Goes Birthday" with a "Heart" Topping.  Once again do I have a heart on this card or don't I? Flower petals...

- Shopping our Stash - SOS #138: Oh Shiny!   The theme is to use something shiny on your card and I think I managed to add some bling.

- Just Add Ink:  JAI #202 Just Add Stripes  Love the Lagoon striped paper from the Skylark Paper Packet from Close To My Heart.

Well that's 4!  I think I am going to go make another card and see how many challenges I can meet with it...

Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge #42

This weeks challenge from AHSC allowed me to play with the new Skylark paper packet!  So beautiful! So spring!  We had snow yesterday followed by heavy fog and rain which has turned everything into a white soggy mess.  West Coast snow is rarely fluffy it is a slushy, soggy mess.  So I am more than happy to play in my craft room today with papers that are make me think of anything but the slushy, soggy mess I have to wade thru shortly to pick my child up from school.

I love it when cards come together quickly and look (in my humble opinion) great!  I fully believe this is because Michelle and Darla of Atlantic Hearts provided us with such great sketches that have lots of room for individual interpretation. This weeks sketch was no exception.

Products I used for this card are the new Skylark Paper, Lagoon and Kraft Cardstock, Sweet Leaf Ink, and the Hello Tweety Stamp Set (which I just realized is now retired).  I also used a piece of Sweet Leaf Ribbon and an antique copper brad from my stash.

Techniques I used on this card are: I sponged inked the white daisy cardstock with Sweet Leaf and to give texture to the Lagoon Cardstock I took my sanding block and using the roughest grit I dragged it across one way and then the other to create the distressed cross-hatch pattern.

Thank you for stopping by and I truly appreciate your comments!  Follow the link to check out all the great artwork submitted to the Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge!
