Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge #78!
Christmas Cards! I have been very busy working on my big Christmas Card Workshop and it never sounds like much work until you do the math, 10 designs done 2 times each x 20 people = a whole lotta paper being cut and embellishments being counted out and everything being triple counted because I would hate for anyone to be missing anything! The first of 3 classes starts on Friday and I am in the home stretch for getting it all ready but the last card always gives me trouble, thankfully this weeks sketch from Atlantic Hearts came to the rescue.
As always, super cute design and I decided I to do a retro Christmas type of card. I wanted to use these wonderful 6x6 Kraft Paper Cards that have a scalloped edged flap, they are a retired product from Close To My Heart but oh so fun! On this card I also used the retired Olive Mini Medley that can still be found on While Supplies Last. I love Mini Medley's and I am glad we still have several options available, they make it so easy to embellish.
For my retro theme I decided to only use Olive and Cranberry Cardstock (a very Christmas combo) with a bit of patterned paper from the Snowhaven Paper Packet and Colonial White for stamping. The super cute bear is from October's Stamp of the Month Home for the Holidays (S1410) and the Christmas greeting is from Be Jolly (B1455) which is a Hostess Rewards Stamp Set. (ask me how you can get yours!) I stamped the images and inked all the Kraft paper with Barn Red Ink. This is not a "go to" colour for me but I find I really like how it turned out on this project. (In person it is way more red than brown) Seems like an unsung hero...
The true hero of this card is my Cricut and the Art Philosophy Cartridge, five cuts were used for this card and the scalloped edge on the bottom was done using my scallop border punch. As a final touch I heavily sanded all the cardstock pieces with the heaviest grit on the sanding block. I love how it gives that well aged, distress look to my retro-ish card.
