Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge #40!

Can you believe we have been at this for 40 weeks already??? So fun!  I so enjoy seeing everyone's take on the sketches from week to week.  I am hopefully going to have a bit more time to get back to doing the challenges weekly.  Life is just busy sometimes, does it not know that I have creating to do?

Now for this weeks sketch from AHSC! I love to make flowers and right away I knew I wanted to make a layered flower with inked edges.  I have made a ton of these types of flowers in the past but have only shown them on a few projects here.

For this card I used a piece of the crazy patterned paper from Laughing Lola, Sparkle Flourishes, Gypsy Ink and the sentiment is from the 4 My Friend (D1510) Stamp Set.
This type of flower is super simple to make, using my Cricut Art Philosophy I cut out the flower shape in a variety of sizes, I then take a sponge and ink the edges in whatever colour I want.  The secret to making these flowers really pop is not only the layering but that you need to "mess with them"... what I like to do is take my bone folder and curl the edges, giving them shape.  I have also been know to crinkle, scrunch, fold and generally manhandle the petals to give them dimension. The rounded end of the CTMH piercing tool is also really good at shaping petals.  So the trick?  Mess with them!

Thank you for stopping by and I truly appreciate your comments!  Follow the link to check out all the great artwork submitted to the Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge! I hope you get inspired and decide to come play along!  We would love to see what you create and you may be voted into the top 3 cards of the week.

Happy Crafting!

  1. Love the inked flower petals, paired with the Laughing Lola paper, they really pop off the page.

  2. Wow - what a fabulous take on the sketch! That flower is awesome.

  3. Super card. Really catches the eye. Would never thought to do that with the flower. Other things, yes, but for some reason never a flower.

  4. Wow, love your card! Laughing Lola is one of my favorite papers from CTMH. Great job on the flower too! I just get too lazy sometimes to break out my Cricut.
BTW, I found your blog via CTMH Consultants Blog Challenge and Support Group.
