Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge #9

This sketch looks easy but in reality is so not!  Especially for those who (ahem) have perfectionist issues... this weeks card unfortunately went thru several revisions  because I like things to be perfectly spaced out and I like my pattern paper to perfectly line up and I think I perfectly need therapy. (LOL)

I do not think it was Michelle of AHSC plan to cause me to have an OCD episode with her wonderful sketch but wow did this one ever live up to the "challenge" part of the title!

Now that it is done I LOVE this card!  I decided to use last winter's Christmas paper from Close To My Heart, it is called Pear and Partridge and like all things Close To My Heart it is lovely.  I am excitedly awaiting the new Fall/Winter Idea Book to arrive and cannot wait to see what this years Christmas paper will be!

This card is very basic in that I used a 5x7 card base in Colonial White Cardstock.  I inked all the edges of my Pear and Partridge pieces in Cashmere Ink and cut my bow out using my Cricut Artiste (pg. 55).  For an extra pop I used a gold Shimmer Design Brad (retired) in the center of my bow.

Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge #8

Pink!  I think I am in a pink mood...

I have been trying (with success) to create more boy or neutral cards over the past few months but this card had to be girly!  Just look what Michelle of  Atlantic Heart's Sketch Challenge has created to inspire us!  As I said it had to be girly!

Given that it is such a clean and simple sketch I wanted to add a little bit something more and decided to make my card a square and cut my base for a 4x4 card.   This way I felt I was adding another element to the card with detracting from Michelle's sketch.

Using Smoothie cardstock as my base I added the chevron patterned paper from the For Always paper packet.

I love to make flowers using my Cricut Art Philosophy and Artiste Collections but Close To My Heart also has paper flowers available in their Just Blooms collections.  The white flowers are from the Petals Paper Flowers (currently in the While Supplies Last) and the smoothie flowers are from the Paradise Paper Flowers.

I inked all the edges including all the flowers with smoothie ink and finished my flower off with a sweet leaf big brad and a bit of sweet leaf ribbon from the Green Designer Ribbon collection (currently on While Supplies Last).

For my sentiment I used some of the super cute felt letters from a now retired product and of course they are in smoothie!  Close To My Heart has retired the felt alphabets but they do have several options currently available that are adhesive-backed alphabets using fun mediums like cork, epoxy and glitter...

Atlantic Heart Sketch Challenge #7

Wow!  Sketch #7 already!  Time flies when we are having fun and once again Michelle of AHSC has created a clean and simple sketch full of possibilities.

This week I choose to work with the "Later Sk8r" paper packet and thought to try out a new (to me) technique.  As you know I have a fearless little boy who is greatly influenced by his fearless father and grandfather!  I saw the saying "I do my own stunts" in the Later Sk8r Workshop on the Go and thought it would make a great sentiment in a get well soon card.  Thankfully nobody in my family is currently injured and I sincerely hope that I never have to use this card!

I turned Michelle's sketch sideways and decided to make big fat pennants. I distressed all the edges with my sanding block and looked around for a more manly embellishment than a flower.

Currently on While Supplies Last you can get "Milepost Shapes" which are corrugated chipboard shapes in a neutral kraft paper colour and I recently purchased some Create-A-Shade™ Pearl Paint which is an acrylic paint that dries translucent.

I have seen/heard many people talk about mixing re-inker into the pearl paint to create your own shade!  I did just that and made pearled lagoon for my star and pear for my arrow.  I love how they turned out shiny, to me they look like painted tin.  Once dry, I did take my Outdoor Denim Pigment Ink and distressed the edges of these pieces and I also"kissed" the Pear pigment Ink on the a raised area of the arrow to give a bit more detail and contrast. I stamped my sentiment in the Outdoor Denim Pigment Ink AND I remember to do the inside as well!  (I always forget to do the inside of my cards...)  To finish off my card I tied a piece of Outdoor Denim Bakers Twine around my star and added a couple of the green epoxy bubbles.

I remembered to do the inside of the card!

Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge #6

Happy Birthday Cousin Livi!

A special girl in our family turns 6 this week and I decided to use this weeks sketch from AHSC for the inspiration to create her birthday card.  As with most little girls she is mad about pink and purple, butterfly's and Fairies...

With that in mind I started this card with pink card stock (from my stash) as my base and knew that I really wanted to use flowers, butterfly's and one of the super cute hedgehogs for a very retired stamp set called "Happy Forever".  I stamped my hedgehog in Slate Ink and sponged his coat with Whisper and a dab of blush on his cheeks.

I cut the flowers out using my Circut Art Philosophy and heavily inked the edges in Baby Pink (retired), Blush and Lagoon.  My sentiment is from the Cricut Artist Collection Birthday stamp set and also inked in Lagoon. I laid down two strips of the wonderful Silver Shimmer Trim (literally peel and stick!) and adhered everything to the card trying to follow Michelle's wonderful sketch.

The cute little butterfly is from the "Irresistibles Miracle Chipboard Die Cuts" which is now a retired product but so fun to use in that the pattern shows up as you apply your ink.  I used a few of the cute button flowers found in the Clear Button Assortment (on special in the While Supplies Last section) and tied the centers of my button flowers and the body of my butterfly with teal shimmer twine from The Twinery. A few sparkles from the Pink & Purple assortment and a few dabs from my Silver Glitter Glitz Gel and I think it is done!  I hope she likes it...
