Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge #24

Whew! What a week... last Monday my mom had to be admitted to the hospital as "something wasn't right with her hip". For those who do not know her she has had 6 hip replacements (stemming from a childhood accident) and was on the wait list to have a 7th.  Due to the degeneration of the bone from so many surgeries, etc. she has way more bits, pieces and parts than just an artificial hip and her x-rays make a competent ER Dr. gulp and look around for help.  Needless to say I have been very busy driving back and forth to Nanaimo Hospital (a good hour away on a winding 2 lane highway) and have been feeling a little overwhelmed with trying to keep up with all my commitments and life in general!  I wasn't sure if I was going to get this weeks challenge from AHSC done in time but I did it!

As always we have been given a super fun sketch that can be interpreted in so many ways.  I am in the middle of getting my yearly "EPIC" Christmas Card workshop ready and just had to make this sketch using the new Sparkle & Shine papers from CTMH.  These papers can be found in the new Holiday Gift Guide that will be available to shop from starting October 15th. (I guess this card is a sneak peek!) I love that in all the patterned papers the slate has a bit of a shine. To me these papers are very classic Christmas and lovely to work with.

I used White Daisy Cardstock as my card base and used slate cardstock to frame my "candy cane" striped paper.  I then added the ruby and slate "brocade" pattern paper and a more white daisy for my sentiment.  I resisted the urge to ink/distress all the edges as I always seem to ink/distress all the edges and I felt this card needed the sharper lines of non distressed edges.

For my sentiment I used Slate Ink and the stamp set from the Sparkle & Shine Scrapbooking Workshop.  Have you noticed that all the stamp sets that come with the Workshops on the Go are bigger!  Not only have they gone from a "C" size stamp set to a "D" size stamp set but the stamps themselves are larger, designed for big titles that really catch your eye.  So much fun to work with.

My flower was cut out using the Cricut Artiste (pg 58) and the leaves are from Art Philosophy (pg 46).  I used some of the new Green Glitter Paper for the leaves and like the little pop of sparkly colour they give to my ruby, white daisy and slate card.  For my flower center I used a Pearl Badge Button which is now a retired product but the perfect compliment to my flower.

Thank you for stopping by and I truly appreciate your comments!  Follow the link to check out all the great artwork submitted to the Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge! I hope you get inspired and decide to come play along!  We would love to see what you create and you may be voted into the top 3 cards of the week.
